Julie McGregor - Dip Phyt., CPP, BFRP
Julie has been working in herbal medicine for 14 years and has been working as a herbalist for ten years. She studied at the School of Phytotherapy, East Sussex and is a member of the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy. Julie is also a registered Bach Flower Practitioner. Approach to Treatment Julie enjoys treating people with a wide variety of health issues. Herbal medicine may help with stress and anxiety, insomnia, digestive problems, skin complaints, hormonal disorders, respiratory problems, arthritis and much more. A typical first appointment will last 50 minutes. This gives a patient plenty of time to discuss their health concerns. To restore optimum health, Julie will look not only at a person’s symptoms but their overall physical health and emotional well-being, their diet, lifestyle and medication. Near the end of the consultation a management plan is agreed on. This may involve dietary changes and lifestyle advice and usually includes a herbal prescription which is specially formulated for the individual. There is time to ask any questions and a follow-up appointment is discussed. Julie can be contacted between appointments via telephone and email. Julie practises at Hamilton Place every Thursday afternoon, alternate Fridays and one Saturday a month and at Bristo Place alternate Fridays. BABY AND CHILD CLINIC Both first and follow-up appointments last half an hour. During the appointment Julie will ask some general health questions and will also ask about a child’s diet and any medicines they are taking. Julie uses very gentle herbs to treat children and babies. If a baby is being breastfed then the mother may be given herbs to take, otherwise the herbal prescription will usually take the form of drops or a herbal tea which can be put into the child’s drink. Sometimes a cream or lotion may be prescribed. Julie feels it is important to involve a child who is old enough to understand, in their herbal treatment. As part of this clinic Julie also sees pregnant women. For many women pregnancy can produce symptoms such as morning sickness, headaches, heartburn, skin changes and constipation, all of which can impair their enjoyment of this amazing time. When used carefully and gently, herbal medicine can help relieve these conditions. Pregnancy may also be a time where a woman is exploring ways of managing a pre-existing health condition with herbal medicine or may simply be looking to optimise her health during pregnancy or put together a herbal birth plan. The Baby and Child Clinic runs every Friday all day and alternates between Hamilton Place and Bristo Place.
