Deirdre Armstrong - BSc(Hons), MA, Certified Fertility Awareness Practitioner
Deirdre is the mother of 5 year old twin boys. She discovered fertility awareness when preparing for her own pregnancy at the age of 35. She had worked in the NHS for many years, but became so interested in the field of fertility that she left her career and re-trained. She is a certified fertility awareness practitioner and graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with distinction in 2006. In the same year she set up Edinburgh's first private fertility awareness clinic. In addition to her qualification in Fertility Awareness, Deirdre has a BSc in Marine Biology from Liverpool University and an MA in Health Services Management from Leeds University. Approach to Treatment Deirdre will carry out a thorough initial assessment of your reproductive health and history and teach you the basic principles of fertility awareness. In addition, she will give you guidance on pre-conception health and give you a tailor made plan for improving your fertility. She will debunk all the getting pregnant myths you may have heard and give you detailed conception coaching. Sessions with Deirdre are unhurried and relaxed and importantly there is plenty of time to talk and ask questions. Deirdre has a very relaxed, positive and practical approach - some couples are daunted at the thought of discussing their fertility issues in such detail but all her clients have commented on how helpful they have found it. Although it is helpful to meet both partners, Deirdre is happy to see women on their own. Enquiries from same sex couples are welcomed. Sometimes complementary therapies may help, for example, to get hormones back in balance or to improve a low sperm count. Deirdre works with a group of therapists at Napiers who specialise in fertility and she may suggest that you seek their help with some issues. Therapies include acupuncture, Chinese and Western herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, hypnotherapy and counselling.
